Self-regulation
Self-regulation is controlling your emotions, actions and thoughts when you are in a situation. It is very crucial to know how to self-regulate when we are interacting with other people. Teaching young children about self-regulation can have a big impact on learning. Rudasill, Reichenberg, et al. (2026) stated “Greater self-regulation is advantageous in the classroom, as more regulated children have an easier time with basic behavioral expectations, and are more likely to persist with difficult tasks, work efficiently, and pay attention to instructions” (para 1). A way that a teacher can encourage self-regulation in classroom is praising them when they wait their turn to answer a question instead of acting out. For example, the teacher lets them know she is proud for waiting their turn to answer. Teachers that have a corner where students can go and calm down when they are feeling frustrated and when they are ready to go back to their seat, they will feel much better to keep learning.
